Nestled at the foot of Castillo de Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz is the oldest part of Alicante. The area is littered with old buildings, cutting edge night clubs, decent terrace bars and restaurants. White-washed houses crowd narrow streets and alleyways lined with plants exploding in vibrant colors and aromas. Many houses have a chair and small table outside the front door right on the sidewalk to sit and enjoy the afternoon sun. Since its not just for tourists - many locals live and work in Santa Cruz - it has a vibrant, lively feel, especially on weekends.
